Chess is the most widely played pastime in the world. It provides students with the opportunity to improve problem-solving skills, increase concentration, socialise with students from MCE and other schools, as well as hours of enjoyment.
Students are coached to improve their general play as well as to learn the finer points of chess etiquette, sportsmanship and fair play.
Marist College Eastwood has been one of the most successful schools at chess in the Northern Region. We have had consistently good results in the Inter-School Teams Competitions and excellent results in the One-Day tournaments.
Students electing to represent the school in chess are placed in teams to enter the Inter-Schools Chess Teams Competition (Played Fridays after school during Term 2) and various team One-Day chess tournaments played throughout the year!
